Frequently Asked Questions

These are about the TKG Ultimate pickup. People who consider coming often ask these questions:

question How much does it cost?

answer Free. Though donations are always welcome.

question Can I come late/leave early?

answer Yes

question Can beginners come?

answer Yes. However there are very skilled players who sometimes appear on Saturday. Feel free to throw on the side of the field or watch if you wish.

question What should I bring?

  • bullet Light and dark clothing. Reversible clothing is OK.
  • bullet Water(preferreably with electrolytes), especially in the hot summer months.
  • bullet Non-metal short spike cleats are recommended. Running shoes are also OK.
  • question If it rains/snows, will you cancel?

    answer Yes, if the rain is moderate or heavy. Check the LINE or facebook group.

    question Is it OK to come with tattoos?

    answer Yes of course.

    question Do you welcome non-Japanese speakers?

    answer Yes. Many in this group speak Mandarin or English.

    question When do you play?

    answer Generally from about 2:30pm to sunset, though it depends. Winter we start early, summer we start late. Specific times are usually written in the Facebook group and LINE group.

    question Are there weekday pickups?

    answer Not from TKG Ultimate. Other local Japanese pickups occasionally hold weeknight pickups.

    question Is there car parking available nearby?

    answer Yes. Make sure to park in the non-reserved areas

    question Is this some kind of dating event?

    answer No.

    question Is there a competitive team?

    answer Yes, but it's not very active. People from Kakinoki sometimes join other local teams for competitions.

    General frisbee-related questions.

    We get asked these questions all the time. Frisbee isn't as widely known in Japan as North America.

    question What is a "frisbee"?

    answer It's a disk that can fly when thrown properly. Looks almost like a plate but upside down.

    question Isn't frisbee for dogs?

    answer No. People play it with each other quite often.

    question How do you get a point?

    answer There is a field with two goal areas. The team on offense must catch the frisbee in this area. Once they catch in the goal area, they get a point.

    question What are the rules?

  • bullet When you have the frisbee, you are allowed to move one leg only. If you catch the frisbee while running, you should stop in 3 steps.
  • bullet When defending an opponent, stay a frisbee length away. Count 10 seconds (called "stall-count"). If they release the frisbee after you say 10, defending team becomes the offense team.
  • bullet Catch the frisbee in your teams goal area when your team is on offense to get a point.
  • bullet Avoid physical contact.
