By 11/2022 there were a stable group of about 12 players. 3 or 4 expressed interest in playing in a local Japanese pickup, but mentioned the team had no real name.
On the way home, the group of 6 passed a fruit shop. Many people seemed particularly interested in the dried persimmons, so A mentioned calling the team "Kakinoki", because the pickup was known for meeting by a tree.
Some thought the name was "cute", but weren't sure if it was suitable as a team name.
Over the next few weeks, the group of 6 created a wechat group and did a vote for which team name to use.
Others thought up names such as "baka gaijin", "river birds" and other names, but eventually, everyone decided on "Kakinoki" likely due to the background story.
Team planned to join the Makuhari 4on4 tournament in November, however to the surprise of A, those who expressed interest in playing the tournament ended up scheduling a vacation on the game day.
Other members dropped out, and would not be seen for several months following. The normal pickup continued, but the excitement of competing in a tournament had fizzled away...
